-
A power cord or mains cable is a cord or cable that temporarily connects an electrical appliance to an electrical power source. These are used to connect your computer, display monitor, printer or HDD enclosure. It is to be noted that power cords from those countries that use 110 V mains supply (chiefly the United States, Canada, parts of South America and Japan) tend to be bulkier than the mains cables used in the rest of the world, because of the higher currents required to deliver the same power (watts) at 110 V compared with 230 V.
- An inverter is an electronic circuit that converts direct current (DC) to alternating current (AC). Inverters are used in a wide range of applications, from small switching power supplies in computers, to large electric utility applications that transport bulk power.
-
An uninterruptible power supply is a device which supplies the stored electrical power to the load in case of raw power cut-off or blackout. One type of UPS uses batteries to store power and an inverter to supply AC power from the batteries when main power is not available.
-
A surge protector is an appliance designed to protect electrical devices from voltage spikes. A power strip is sometimes miscalled a surge protector, although many power strips have surge protection built-in, and are clearly labeled thus.
